Kufra, Southern Libya — July 2025: Libya has taken a major step toward clean energy with the inauguration of its first-ever 1 MW solar power plant in the city of Kufra. Delivered in May 2025 by Infinity Libya in collaboration with the Al-Jouf Free Zone, this milestone project is already generating results and attention.

🚧 Built Faster Than Scheduled

The contract was signed in September 2024, and the plant was delivered well ahead of schedule. Developed by Infinity Libya and constructed by Lamsa Company for General Contracting, the plant is now operated by a fully trained Libyan engineering team.

⚡ Key Benefits and Impact

  • Estimated annual energy production: 2,182 MWh
  • Diesel savings: 545,000 liters per year
  • Carbon emissions reduction: 1,300 tons per year

The plant directly powers the Al-Jouf Free Zone, significantly reducing reliance on diesel generators and laying the foundation for more sustainable industrial growth.

🌍 Strategic Step in Libya’s Green Future

This project supports Libya’s broader plan to increase renewable energy to 20% of the national mix by 2035. It comes as the country prepares a larger 500 MW solar project in Sadada, with strong regional and international interest.

💡 Local Empowerment & Energy Sovereignty

Infinity has emphasized skills transfer by training local engineers to operate the plant, setting a precedent for sustainable energy built by and for Libyans.

🔭 Looking Ahead

This solar plant is a symbol of possibility—demonstrating Libya’s capacity to leap into clean energy with practical, scalable solutions. The success of Kufra may encourage further development across Libya’s southern regions and beyond.
