TotalEnergies strengthens its energy transition in Canada with major investments in renewables and LNG

May 2025 marks a strategic shift for TotalEnergies in Canada, with two significant announcements that reflect the company’s dual ambition: expanding green energy production and securing low-carbon energy supplies.

🔋 Nearly 1 GW in renewable energy projects
TotalEnergies has acquired nearly 1 gigawatt of solar and wind projects from Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES) and Onyx Insight across Alberta, Quebec, and Saskatchewan. These projects are expected to be commissioned between 2026 and 2028. The move supports the company’s global goal of reaching 100 GW of renewable capacity by 2030.

🛢️ 20-year low-carbon LNG deal
In parallel, TotalEnergies signed a 20-year agreement with the Ksi Lisims LNG project in British Columbia to purchase 2 million tons of liquefied natural gas annually. Fully powered by hydroelectricity, the project aims to become one of the lowest-carbon LNG facilities worldwide. TotalEnergies has acquired a 5% stake, with an option to increase it to 10%.

🌍 A balanced multi-energy strategy
These investments reflect TotalEnergies’ multi-energy approach, combining renewables, LNG, and low-carbon innovation. Canada plays a key role in this strategy, thanks to its abundant clean energy resources and progressive climate policies.
