Quebec Winter Carnival 2025: A Winter Tradition That Warms Hearts

From February 7 to 16, 2025, the 71st Quebec Winter Carnival promises a program that will take your breath away! The world’s largest winter festival once again transforms the national capital into a magical winter playground.

A Rich Historical Heritage

The tradition of celebrating winter in Quebec dates back many years. The first major winter carnival emerged in 1894 in the world’s snow capital. Facing the harshness of Quebec winters, the population created this snow festival to warm hearts. Although interrupted by both World Wars and the Great Depression of 1929, the Carnival spirit remained alive.

The Modern Renaissance

In 1954, a group of visionary entrepreneurs revived the festival to boost the Old Capital’s economic development. They created the character of Bonhomme, who quickly became the event’s iconic ambassador. Since the first modern edition in 1955, the Carnival has established itself as an essential part of Quebec’s winter life.
