🗓 June 13, 2025 – January 4, 2026
🎨 Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA)
From June to early 2026, the MMFA unveils Streaming Light, the first solo museum exhibition by Montreal-based artist Marie-Claire Blais in Quebec. This large-scale installation immerses visitors in a unique dialogue between painted fabrics, color, movement, and sound.
A Monumental and Meditative Work
At the heart of the show is a suspended installation made of painted burlap panels. Forming a massive wave-like structure, they create a soft, contemplative atmosphere, colored in shades of pink, blue, and orange—echoing the rhythm of sunrise and sunset.
Exploring Light and Material
Around the main structure, crumpled painted works line the walls in an uneven pattern, reinforcing the rhythm and materiality of the exhibition. These folds interact with the lighting and visitor movement to shift the perception of color and texture as one walks through the gallery.
A Deeply Physical Sonic Experience
The ambient soundtrack features sounds recorded in the artist’s studio—brushes and circular hand motions applying pigment onto raw jute fabric. The physicality of creation contrasts with the floating, ephemeral final result.
