n the midst of trade speculation, St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn is keeping his focus on the ice as he prepares to play his 1,000th NHL game against the Washington Capitals on Thursday night.

Speaking to NHL.com’s Tom Gulitti, Schenn addressed the rumours calmly:

“Honestly, it’s like the times I’ve gotten traded, I didn’t expect it. You really never know. I’ve always said I love it here in St. Louis. It’s a great organization and a great place to play. … But it’s the trade deadline, so some people make rumours.”

Schenn attributed the growth of some trade rumours to speculation in larger media markets but expressed his intent to focus on his game instead of the noise surrounding the deadline:

“It’s all about taking things day by day and playing your game.”

A Family Legacy of Excellence

Thursday’s game marks a historic milestone for not only Brayden, but also the Schenn family. When Brayden hits 1,000 NHL games, the Schenn brothers will join the elite group of eight sibling duos to each play 1,000 NHL games. His older brother, Luke Schenn, a defenceman with the Nashville Predators, has had his own prosperous career, including two separate tenures with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Career Highlights

Originally selected fifth overall in the 2009 NHL Draft by the Los Angeles Kings, Schenn transitioned from the WHL’s Brandon Wheat Kings to an illustrious NHL career spanning 16 seasons. After stints with the Kings and the Philadelphia Flyers, Schenn found his most success with the St. Louis Blues, whom he joined in 2017.
