From June 17 to 22, 2025, the Ivorian capital Abidjan celebrates “Sports for All” Week, an initiative of the Ministry of Sports in collaboration with local NGOs and the National Olympic Committee.
The goal: to make sports accessible to all, regardless of age, gender, or ability, and to promote physical activity as a public good.
🏐 40+ Free Sporting Activities
Throughout the week, more than 40 free sports sessions are held across districts like Abobo, Treichville, Cocody, and Yopougon, including:
- Group Zumba and fitness
- Football, handball, basketball
- Relay races and wellness walks
- Martial arts (judo, karate)
- Adaptive sports for persons with disabilities
Certified instructors assist children, seniors, and participants with special needs.
🎤 Voices from the Community
“It’s the first time I practiced judo with my son. We had fun, sweat, and laughed together.”
— Salimata K., mother from Yopougon
“Before, I just watched sports. This time, I ran 3 km—no pressure, just joy.”
— Mamadou T., 62, retired
🌍 Health and Social Unity at the Core
This initiative supports public health, inclusion, and social cohesion. Free medical screenings (blood pressure, glucose, BMI) are available, and nutrition awareness workshops are offered throughout the week.
Inter-neighborhood competitions also help to build stronger community ties.
🏁 Looking Ahead
Given the popularity of the first edition, the Ministry is already planning to expand the program to cities like Bouaké, San Pedro, and Korhogo in 2026—making it an annual event of national scope.
